At Whickham Parochial Church of England Primary School, safeguarding is at the heart of everything we do. It underpins every decision we make, every relationship we build and every aspect of school life.
Our commitment is to ensure that all children feel safe, valued, respected and able to flourish in an environment where they are known, understood and cared for as unique individuals.
Our school vision,"Let your Light Shine" (Matthew 5:16), guides us in creating a culture where every child can grow, thrive and achieve their full potential.
We are proud to be a loving, nurturing and fully inclusive school community. Safeguarding extends far beyond child protection and encompasses children's physical safety, emotional wellbeing, mental health, attendance, behaviour, online safety and personal development. We believe that children learn best when they feel safe, secure and supported, and therefore safeguarding is embedded across all aspects of school life.
Our staff know our children well and take time to understand each child's individual needs, experiences and circumstances. Positive relationships are at the centre of our approach. By working closely with families, external agencies, governors and our wider community, we strive to ensure that every child receives the support they need to succeed and flourish.
All staff receive regular safeguarding training and understand their responsibility to identify concerns, listen to children and take appropriate action. We promote a culture of vigilance where the welfare of children is always the first consideration. Children are encouraged to speak to trusted adults, share any worries and know that they will be listened to and supported.
Our Christian values of compassion, respect, forgiveness, dignity and service to others underpin our safeguarding culture. We are committed to ensuring that every child feels valued, protected and empowered to let their light shine.
At Whickham Parochial, safeguarding is not simply a policy or procedure. It is a culture that runs through everything we do. Every member of our school community has a role to play in keeping children safe and ensuring they can learn, grow and flourish
